Forest of Numbers

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the national art center of tokyo opening its doors, architect Emmanuelle Moureaux has created a large scale paper installation – ‘forest of numbers’ – to welcome guests into the exhibition room. The installation consists of a stream of 60,000 brightly coloured numerals is suspended from the ceiling, representing the institution’s next decade.

the 2,000 square meter space becomes the blank canvas for Emmanuelle Moureaux‘s installation — her largest to date. A sense of stillness is evoked in the large room where the floating numbers from 0 to 9 are organized in three dimensional grids.

The installation is made up of 10 layers, representing the next decade. each layer employs 4 digits to express the relevant year such as 2, 0, 1, and 7 for 2017, which have been randomly positioned on the grids.
